( CHARACTER ★ INFORMATION )

DOES THIS CHARACTER MEET SKELETAL BASICS? Yes!
NAME & AGE: Tumnus // Several hundred years old, but still a young adult in faun years. He would be approximately 26 in human years.
CANON & CANON POINT: End of the film, after the departure of Lucy and siblings from Narnia and leading into Prince Caspian

CANON INFORMATION:
WIKI
NARNIA WIKI

PERSONALITY:
As far as Fauns go, he can be rather bumbling, and his countless accidents and startlements tend to embarrass him -- at his worst, he is reduced to a stammering wreck. He is a creature of infinite apologies, oftentimes underestimating his own competence. Should either party survive their initial meeting with the Faun, however, one would find Tumnus to be quite a charming individual, winning the friendship and trust of those around him with relative ease.

He is terribly polite and proper, and you will rarely find him otherwise, even when he does venture out to meet with his more joyful brethren on the Dancing Lawn. After one hundred years spent alone in the Witch's frigid winter, he is much more comfortable resigned to solitude, although he does not particularly mind being interrupted -- especially if it is a certain Daughter of Eve coming to call on him.

Although initially he was quite a coward, the fateful meeting by the lamppost and his resulting friendship with young Lucy Pevensie has inspired in Tumnus a valor even he did not know he possessed. He will fight for the young Queen with nary a hesitation and will do so until he breathes his last breath.

Regarding the youngest of the Pevensie children, Tumnus has formed the strongest and most trusted friendship. Acting as both adviser and confidant to Lucy, Tumnus finds in himself a strength he never expected. He terribly regrets his initial betrayal in service of the White Witch and forever has the niggling sense that he did wrong by his young friend, no matter the amount of service or time dedicated to the 'good fight'.

Tumnus retains a terrible fear of witches from the time he was turned to stone by Jadis, the White Witch. He will, however, and did, go to war against the same woman in attempt to make way for a safe and just Narnia under the rule of Aslan.

He enjoys a quiet evening at home, nestled in a plush chair alongside the roaring fire in his hearth. A book preferred to a sword and a gentle laugh to a cry of war. He is, above all, a kind creature that would deem to be half the faun his father was; even though he has already proven to be on several occasions.

He loves Lucy Pevensie as a platonic soulmate, seeing in her all the hopes and aspirations of not just Narnia, but her own world of Spare Oom. He has missed her terribly since her disappearance those many years ago when she and her elder siblings dashed off to chase the White Stag into the forest, vanishing altogether from the land of Narnia. Desolate, but trusting Aslan, he hopes for her return, someday.

COURT ALLIANCE & REASONING: Seelie
There was a time, not so very long ago, that Tumnus' actions might have led to his being placed in the Unseelie Court. He had lied both through omission and direct falsehood so that he might present a Daughter of Eve to Jadis, the White Witch. He, at that time, was more concerned with keeping himself safe then worrying about some human child that he'd never met or spoken to.

However, at heart, Tumnus the faun is a being that would fit within the halls of the Seelie Court. While he did aid Jadis in her chaotic purpose to rule Narmia and hold it in a state or permanent winter, he did so due to his fear of her and her magic.

At heart, though a seemingly unlikely hero, Tumnus is a protector of the weak and underprivledged. He believes in those that rule their people fairly and justly, and himself does his best to treat others as he feels he should be treated. In defense of those beliefs, he goes so far as to refuse to give away information that would damn the future rulers of Narnia, resulting in the White Witch turning the faun to stone. He held his tongue, even knowing that his refusal to speak would result in being made stone by Jadis. This showed a bravery that Tumnus never even knew he had, not until the moment he felt himself turning. He had sacrificed himself to save Lucy and her siblings, and while he was terrified to be forever frozen, he had to do his part to help Narnia return to what it should have been.

He has done his best to live truthfully since his attempt at capturing Lucy, unable to do to her as was asked of him. He does not see a terrible human that threatens Narnia, but instead a scared, yet pure, little girl in need of a friend. A friend he himself is in terrible need of.

Tumnus truly believes that beauty is life and to live is beautiful. He is a faerie creature, living freely amongst other such kin in the woods of Narnia and frolicking within the trees and woods with other nymphs and fae.

He will forever believe in love, loyalty and faith. For they and that which he believes in, the good of Narnians and his sweet Lucy, he would give his own life a thousand times over. He believes in redemption and being able to prove oneself, even from such terrible mistakes as he made himself.

Above all else he believes in love and all it encompasses: friendship and family most of all.

ABILITIES:
A determined fighter, Tumnus is able bodied with a sword if placed in his hand, though not as much as a truly trained fighter would be. He is more than capable of physically defending himself and unafraid to use his surroundings to their best advantage. He is a well-practiced and talented player of his Narnian reed pipes and can use them to put someone to sleep until they awaken in a natural manner. (The pipes are known to instill mixed feelings upon the listeners: urge to cry, dance, and sleep .. sleep always happens, but the other urges might as well)

Bulleted for your pleasure:
- good fighter (sword and hooves)
- super fleet footed and crazy good balance (yay, goat!)
- natural with reed pipes (can put others to sleep w/music and otherwise effect emotions)

INVENTORY:
An umbrella, a scarf, a parcel with books/paper/quill/ink, and a set of reed pipes

NETWORK SAMPLE:
Well, hello there.

[It seems a simple enough music box when Tumnus finds it sitting on the stone steps of Cair Paravel. His gray-blue eyes move around the area, looking for anyone that might have misplaced it. He doesn't see the small fairies flirting from tree limb to tree limb overhead, their gazes intent as they watch the faun. Seeing no one he bends and picks it up, jugging it with his non parcel laden arm. He turns it this way and that until his eyes light upon a small key.]

My my .. such a strange little box you are. Whoever could have left you here, hmm?

[He's not expecting an answer of any kind, but he finds his fingers drifting to the key, itching to turn it and set the music playing. He pauses, hand pulling away as his brows knit together.]

How curious .. I've every inclination to turn your key .. things in Narnia are not so quick to be trusted, but .. I feel a compulsion. How curious, indeed.

[So saying does not make the inclination to turn the key any less, however, and soon enough his fingers have drifted once more. The fairies look at one another, a soft tinkle of laughter slipping past their lips before gazing back at Tumnus.]

Oh, bother! [His is an irritated quip as he shakes his bushy head before snorting in amusement.] It's just a music box, isn't it? What harm in turning a key?

[That's how these sort of adventures start, isn't it? The simple turning of a key .. magic sweeping you off into a world quite unlike your own. Coming from the land he came from, one would think that Tumnus wouldn't act in such a rash manner. Perhaps that he would recognize magic when it was being used to compel him into action. Had he not done the same thing, many years ago, when he lulled young Lucy into sleep with the intent to hand her over to the White Witch?]

~~~~
[It's that thought that brings him around and he does so blinking rapidly, hooves clicking against the ground as he falters backwards a step or two.]
Oh, whatever was that all about?! [His eyes widen as they settle and actually take in his surroundings, his mouth falling open as his gaze falls upon the castle at Caer Glaem.
This was not Cair Paravel .. in fact, his gaze darting and sweeping the area around him as he spun in place, it didn't look like Narnia at all. No Narnia that he knew!]
Oh, d-d-d-dear! [His swallows thickly, clutching his parcels tightly to his chest. He felt the parcel dig into something unfamiliar and he loosens his hold, glancing down. Around his neck, next to his reed pipe, is a locket unlike any he has seen before. It was not on his person a moment ago, he is sure of it!!] W-w-what in heavens name??
[He shifts from foot to foot, hooves clicking almost in time with his nervous heart beat. With one final glance around, he takes a deep breath and begins to make his way toward the castle and, hopefully, answers.]
LOG SAMPLE:
It was a beautiful day in Narnia, the sun high and bright despite the chill that was beginning to creep into the breeze. Autumn was fast approaching, but if you cared to you could rest easy to know that there were at least a few more days of summer before it would surrender to the golden leaves and crisp streams that preluded winter.
Tumnus gazed over the rolling hills before him, a half smile on his lips as he began to carefully make his way down the hill that lead to his destination. He made this trek every year, cloven hooves clicking against the well packed dirt of the trail that hadn't been there many years before; not until he and a curious little girl had first ventured to the fields.
He crested the last hill, hand pressed to the top of one furred thigh as he dug into the steep incline. Huffing softly at the effort it was taking, the faun made a mental note to speak with the armsmaster about a new exercise regime. He had allowed himself far too much slack over the past few months and he was certainly paying for it now. That, however, was neither here nor there; he had arrived and he could concern himself with the details of his arrival later.
His gaze drifted down the hill before him and the sight, as it always did, took his breath away. The field before him, as far as the eye could see, was stretched thick with wild flowers. Just the sight of it was enough to bring the memories rushing back and his hand moved involuntarily to touch his heart.
He had heard of this place the summer after they had reclaimed Narnia and entered the Golden Age. The first person he had thought to show it to had been none other than his closest friend and a newly appointed Queen if Narnia, Lucy. His heart lurched at the thought, his hooves moving across the dirt as if of their own accord. She had been so excited! They had run around the flowers for the entirety of the day, she chasing him and he chasing her. They had danced to the music of his reed pipes, and they had laughed. Oh, they had laughed!!
Though a Queen, Tumnus also knew that little Lucy Pevensie was also a little girl. There was no reason that she should not be allowed to act like one when time permitted, no matter what the other advisors said. It was a harmless bit of fun that he'd not have allowed to have taken from them. As they played in those fields they had talked, their conversation drifting from on topic to another. Tumnus had felt himself proud at the maturity in the girl before him, but was equally torn the her childhood had been so filled with pain and suffering. As he wove a wreath of flowers for her hair he shared with her his fears and concerns.
Never before the war would he have ever considered sharing such with a young girl, but this was no mere child. Just as he offered his services as her confidant and advisor, she offered him the same. Such a thing might have been silly to others, but to Tumnus such an offer had been accepted without a beat of hesitation. Though still a child, her advise had been true to her heart and thoughtful and had given the faun much to think on. They had remained laying amongst the flowers until Kng Edmund himself had arrived by horse to bring them back to Cair Paravel.
It became a tradition then, just as the summer was beginning to fade each year, for he and his Queen to return to that field. Every year their topics of discussions changed and Tumnus watched the young girl mature into a beautiful young woman. He taught he the use of his reed pipes and they danced as she played, the happy songs seeming to sway the flowers to dance with them. And they laughed.
It had been many years since his closest friend had left Narnia, but still Tumnus returned to the fields every year.
As his gaze swept over the flowers, he could not help but smile at the memories of his dear, dear friend. Perhaps, in time, he would see her again. Until then he would come here, following the trails they had made through the rows upon rows of colorful blooms.
He would play his reed pipes. He would dance and laugh. He would remember and he would hope.
